Crème Parfum: What Does it Mean in Perfumery?
Crème parfum belongs to
Crème parfum literally translates to “perfume cream.” It is similar to eau de parfum but with a different base.
Crème parfum has probably about 8-15% dilution rate of botanical extracts and/or oils. Any more, and the cost of the ingredients would make the crème parfum cost prohibitive. You might find that crème parfums retain a greater potency concentration than alcohol-based perfumes.
Crème parfums have a base that is made up of cream, balm or even wax (like beeswax - although technically a solid perfume). The key difference between an eau de parfum and a crème parfum is that a crème parfum doesn’t have alcohol content like an eau de parfum. This makes it appealing to those who might be allergic to alcohol or have personal reasons for not using alcohol. Alcohol can also be drying to the skin.
Some of the ingredients that you might find in a crème parfum base include:
shea butter
cocoa butter
beeswax
coconut oil (virgin).
You’ll find many of the same fragrance families used in a crème parfum as in an eau de parfum. However, heavier base-note oils and deep florals lend themselves better to a crème parfum than lighter citrus notes.
Understanding perfume types is probably one of the first steps that you need to decipher when deciding which type of fragrance that you’d like to make.
